Integrations · Analytics
PreviewMD integrates with Fathom Analytics.
Fathom Analytics needs no keys and no setup fields. Switch it on and PreviewMD reports both events through the Fathom script already on your pages. That one detail explains everything else here.
What arrives in your dashboard.
Two events, and nothing else at all.
A patient finished seeing their before-and-after. Sent as the event previewmd_preview_completed.
A patient left their name and email. Sent as previewmd_lead_submitted.
Nothing else. Fathom accepts an event name and no other detail, so it cannot carry the procedure or say where the preview happened.
Under the hood
Fathom counts a little low, and you should know why.
Fathom is the one destination PreviewMD cannot reach from its own servers, because Fathom has no way to receive an event from outside the browser. So the widget calls the Fathom script already running on your page instead, and everything else follows from that. A picture that finishes after the patient has closed the tab is never reported, which means Fathom shows slightly fewer previews than your PreviewMD dashboard and the dashboard is the accurate one. An event cannot carry the procedure, or say whether it happened on your website or in the consult room, because Fathom’s tracking call accepts a name and nothing else. If a patient blocks the script, or Fathom Analytics is not installed on that page, nothing is sent and nothing breaks. For a practice that chose Fathom for its simplicity, that trade is usually the right one.
How it connects
01
Switch it on in the Integrations tab. There is no key, no ID and no field to fill in.
02
It reports through the Fathom script already installed on your website, so Fathom needs to be running there first.
03
If the two events do not appear in Fathom on their own, create them by hand with the same names and they will start filling in.
Questions
Questions.
Does PreviewMD work with Fathom Analytics?
Yes. Turn it on in the PreviewMD dashboard and the widget reports two events to the Fathom script on your website: one when a preview finishes and one when a visitor submits their contact details.
What do I need to connect it?
Nothing but the switch. Fathom has no way to receive events from our server, so there is no key or site ID to copy. It does need Fathom already installed on your website.
Why does Fathom show fewer previews than my PreviewMD dashboard?
Because the visitor’s browser reports it, not our server. If someone closes the tab while their preview is still generating, Fathom never hears about it. Your PreviewMD dashboard is the accurate count.
Can Fathom show me which procedure was previewed?
No. Fathom’s tracking call takes an event name and nothing else, so there is nowhere to attach it. Connect Google Analytics or Plausible if you need that breakdown.
What if the events do not show up?
Create them by hand in Fathom using the same two names. Fathom’s own guidance is to add an event manually if it has not appeared, and it works the same either way.
